Covid-19: Western Cape records 318 new Covid-19 cases as seven more die

South Africa recorded 437 new Covid-19 cases pushing the total number of positive cases nationally to 7 220

The Western Cape has recorded more than double the number of new Covid-19 cases than the rest of South Africa combined.

South Africa recorded 437 new Covid-19 cases on May 4 pushing the total number of positive cases nationally to 7 220.

Seven more deaths, six in the Western Cape and one in KwaZulu-Natal were also recorded.

The total number of tests conducted stands at 257 541.

The private sector conducted 4 569 tests in the last 24 hours while the number of tests conducted in the same time in the public sector stands at 7 225.

At this stage, the Western Cape is still the South African coronavirus epicentre with 3 362 cases.

The province also recorded the highest number of new infections with 318 cases.

The Eastern Cape had the second highest number of new infections with 40 to bring its total number of coronavirus cases to 814.

The current number of infections in Gauteng stands at 1 661 with 37 new positive cases.

Covid-19 positive cases in KwaZulu-Natal increased by 30 to 1 076.
