A community that helps in tough times

Nkomo said they wanted to also reach out to foreigners as well.

Weeks of lockdown have passed by and many continue to face food shortages.

The Modderfontein and Greenstone community recently reached into their pockets for neighbouring disadvantaged communities lead by Ward 32 Councillor Bongani Nkomo.

Nkomo urged community members to donate towards food drops for Alexandra, Linbro Park and Klipfonteinview’s disadvantaged residents and that is exactly what the community did.

A food drop made to seven families in Linbro Park.

On April 15 and 16 a team made up of community members and local security companies went food shopping at local groceries stores and packaged items accordingly.

From April 16 onwards food drops to different families and disadvantaged areas were made.

The first food drop was in Alexandra and another delivery went to 44 elderly grandmothers in Klipfonteinview.

More donations were delivered to families in Linbro Park.

Nkomo said they wanted to also reach out to foreigners as well.

“They have been struggling to get food parcels from the government’s food drives.

“Many foreigners wait in long queues for hours only to be told that they cannot receive food parcels.”

Kimbal Mare, project assistant said it was an absolute privilege to be part of the team and to serve her community.

“To every person that has donated to this cause so far, thank you.

“You have made a difference in someone’s life,” said Mare.
