Gauteng records 574 recoveries out of 1 170

Gauteng’s number of active Covid-19 cases is almost half of its total number of cases as the province has recorded 574 recoveries from a total of 1 170.

As of April 20, the province has recorded seven deaths and has 589 active cases.

The recoveries refer to people who previously tested positive for Covid-19 and are now negative.

“Out of a total of 6 947 contacts traced, 2 915 people have completed a 14-day monitoring period with no symptoms reported and, therefore, they have been de-isolated,” said Gauteng Health spokesperson Kwara Kekana.

The balance of 4 032 contacts are still under daily monitoring.

 

“The department has intensified large scale community screening and testing is taking place in various communities, at hospitals, mental health facilities, primary health facilities and correctional service facilities,” said Kekana.

The province has screened 565 780 people thus far.

Johannesburg still tops the list of cases with 698 followed by Ekurhuleni with 246.

Tshwane has 122 cases, followed by the West Rand with 39 and Sedibeng with 11.

The unallocated number of cases is 54.
