Covid-19: Eastern Cape records five deaths and 310 confirmed cases

Efforts intensify to test people for Covid-19 in the Eastern Cape

The Eastern Cape Health Department is intensifying its efforts to fight the deadly Covid-19.

Health MEC Sindiswa Gomba said, “We remain committed to testing as many people as possible so that we don’t sit with a situation where we have low numbers of people confirmed positive for Covid-19 due to non-testing.

“If testing as many people as possible means we will have high numbers of people infected with this virus so be it, because we would rather know how many people are positive so that they can get the medical help they need.

“Just like any medical condition it is better to know than not know the status of your health.

“What we don’t want is a situation where people walk around not knowing whether they have Covid-19 or not and infect more people.”

As of April 21, the province had recorded five deaths and 310 confirmed cases.

A total of 6 773 people had tested negative.

A total of 15 people are recovering.

The Buffalo City Metro leads with 116 cases, followed by the Nelson Mandela Metro with 130, Chris Hani District with 28, Sarah Bartmaan District with 14, OR Tambo District with 17 and Amathole District with 5.
