Covid-19: Cabinet hopes to resolve SA’s economic woes

The consolidated submission aims to guide the country on practical ways to reignite economic growth following the national lockdown.

A virtual Special Cabinet Meeting held on April 20 sought to deliberate on a consolidated report of the socio-economic recovery plan post Covid-19 lockdown.

Last week chairpersons from five national clusters were directed to revisit their submissions and consolidate them into one report.

The five clusters were economic sectors, investment, employment and infrastructure development; governance, state capacity and institutional development; social protection, community and human development; international cooperation, trade and security; and justice, crime prevention and security.

The consolidated submission aims to guide the country on practical ways to reignite economic growth following the national lockdown.

The submission will also propose government interventions to deal with the socio-economic hardships caused by the lockdown, particularly the absence of economic activity.

Tonight

President Cyril Ramaphosa will this evening, April 21, address the nation to outline the expanded Covid-19 socio-economic measures that form part of the national response to the pandemic.

Cabinet also approved the appointment of Avril Adelle Williamson as the Director-General of the Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs.
