EMPD recovers chassis of stolen vehicles

“Officers responded swiftly and a 46-year-old Zambian national found on the premises, who claimed to be the owner of the business, was arrested.”

The carcasses and chassis of five light delivery vehicles worth R1-million were recovered from a Barbara Road property by EMPD’s Intervention Unit.

The vehicles, formerly Toyota Hiluxes, are related to case numbers registered at Edenvale, Parkview, Randburg and Honeydew police stations.

In addition to the recovery of the car parts, a man believed to be a business owner was arrested on March 18.

EMPD spokesperson Kobeli Mokheseng said members of the unit received GPS coordinates from the Netstar vehicle-tracking company about a stolen Toyota Corolla sedan in one of the buildings in Barbara Road.

“Officers responded swiftly and a 46-year-old Zambian national found on the premises, who claimed to be the owner of the business, was arrested.”

A case of possession of stolen motor vehicles was registered against the suspect at the Johannesburg Central police station.

“Arrangements in conjunction with Johannesburg SAPS were made to move the five recovered vehicles to the SAPS pound at Aeroton yard.”

Kobeli said the suspect is expected to face charges at Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court.
