Edenvale SAPS calls for calm during Covid-19

“By not panicking, we can ensure that the community remains calm and no one is injured or put in danger.”

With the number of Covid-19 cases on the rise, Edenvale SAPS appealed to the community to remain calm and listen to the authorities.

“We are monitoring the situation and working closely with the Department of Health to assist those who need medical attention,” said Edenvale SAPS spokesperson Sgt Jacob Mashile.

“The partnership between the SAPS and the health department hopes to reduce the spread of Covid-19.”

He urged the community not to panic and encouraged parents to keep their children away from public places or places where many people may gather, such as shopping centres, during the school holidays.

“Community members need to listen to the authorities.

“By not panicking, we can ensure that the community remains calm and no one is injured or put in danger.”

When asked if the station was prepared for the possibility of unrest, Mashile said it was.

“With the assistance of other policing units, like the Public or Policing Unit, Edenvale is prepared for any unrest,” said Mashile.

“Any crimes committed by the public will be dealt with accordingly.”

Besides monitoring the situation and working with the health department, Mashile said SAPS members themselves are taking precautions to reduce the spread of the virus.

According to provincial SAPS guidelines:

• Officers are advised to make use of use of N95 or paper masks.

• To make use of latex gloves to prevent contact with bodily fluids.

• To spring clean cells with disinfectants at least once a week.

• Maintain a distance from individuals who display symptoms of influenza.

Mashile explained that this is not to be rude but because of uncertainty if the person is infected with Covid-19.
