Lena to help SAPS communicate effectively

Const Brenda Kgadima, a Sector Manager of the area has been very helpful.

Known for her warm hugs, is Modderfontein’s new public relations officer (PRO) and Community Policing Forum(CPF) vice-chairperson, Lena Ribeiro.

“Whether I meet a petrol attendant or a police officer, I greet them with a hug,” said Lena.

The new PRO said she aims communicate what is happening in the area, and promote a good relationship between the community and police.

“Ninety per cent of residents do not know what is happening around them.”

She said she looks forward to working on crime prevention awareness, gender-based violence and domestic violence projects with the community, this year.

Modderfontein has been home to Lena for five years.

“I love nature, and Modderfontein offers that exclusive beauty,” said the PRO.

The overall appearance of the suburb is another concern of Lena’s.

“I would like to see this beautiful nature to be protected.”

Every morning the vice-chairperson takes walks with her dog around the suburb, and gets upset when she sees litter.

“I pick up litter whenever I see it.”

Lena said serving the community is her way of giving back.

“I love Modderfontein, there is no place like it.”

The Westlake Eco Estate Trustee, and security subcommittee member, said she was warmly welcomed by Sebenza SAPS.

Lena is not completely new to the job. She has worked closely with Sebenza SAPS, and other safety stakeholders on various cases related to her estate.

“So far Sebenza SAPS has worked together with us like a team.”

Lena spoke about the work SAPS has done for the community.

Const Brenda Kgadima, a sector manager of the area, has been very helpful.

“For instance, when we had a domestic violence case, the police handled it very well.

“They took their time, and were there for us,” said Lena.

There have been disappointments with police response time according to Lena, but generally she is happy with Sebenza SAPS.

“I am passionate about Modderfontein,” said Lena.

Ekurhuleni North Cluster and Sebenza SAPS CPF chairman, Andrew Mosesi, said he was delighted to have a new CPF executive committee.

“PRO is responsible with communicating CPF’s campaign aims and objectives.”

Mosesi said the appointment of Lena will allow him to focus on overseeing the structure and its sectors.

“Lena brings a lot of community experience which includes safety and security.

Her public speaking, written and verbal communications skills, will be valuable to the CPF.”
