Chop or colour your hair to help fight cancer

The Shavathon is an annual event used to raise funds for cancer patients who cannot afford to cover their own medical costs while suffering from cancer.

“I am cutting my hair because both of my parents are cancer survivors.”

These are the words of Edenglen community member Pratisha Sewnandan who cut off the ponytail of her hair in support of the Shavathon Campaign outside Karaglen Superspar on February 29.

Cancer Association of South Africa (Cansa) volunteers from the Edenvale community pitched up to run shaving and colouring stalls outside the Superspar and inside Karaglen Mall.

The Shavathon is an annual event used to raise funds for cancer patients who cannot afford to cover their own medical costs while suffering from cancer.

Countless community members supported the cause by stopping at the stalls for a chop or a colour spray during their shopping runs.

While other community members came out as a family to spend their time supporting the stalls.

Edenvale’s pageant queens were also present to help with the spraying and colouring of people’s hair.

Mrs Mzanzi Ubuntu 2019 Lynde Peacock brought her own family to enjoy the fun.

Darryl Peacock also cut his long ponytail to support the Shavathon.

All hands were on deck, making sure cancer-supporting clients look and feel good for the day.

Mamba Security was present and actively involved in the Shavathon drive.

Karaglen Superspar and Karaglen Mall were busy and fun Shavathon hosts for 2020.
