Camera project in need of funds

The cameras play a vital role in combating crime, so there is a great need to keep the project going.

With the hopes of keeping the Edenvale camera project going, Edenvale Community Policing Forum (ECPF) is set to host several fund-raising initiatives.

Treasurer of the ECPF Ines Luck said the cameras play a vital role in combating crime, so there is a great need to keep the project going.

At the February 22 ECPF meeting, Luck said it cost approximately R700 per month to cover the monitoring costs of the cameras.

Luck said in addition to covering the monitoring cost, the CPF hopes to install more cameras.

ECPF chairperson Sheryl Damerell said the cameras are assisting law-enforcement agencies win the battle against crime.

“We cannot do without them,” she explained.

The first fund-raising initiative will be a raffle.

Tickets are set to be sold at R50 per ticket and entrants can stand to win a weekend away to Carnival City, or one of two security systems.
