Poetry and writing careers

Writer, journalist and broadcaster, Peter James-Smith will talk about his writing career in the afternoon.

Writers 2000 (W2000) will be hosting two speakers for their February 15 meeting at the Inyoni Creek.

Burgie Ireland of W2000 said registration will start at 9.30am.

“The first speaker will be Anthea Pretorius who will conduct a poetry and Haiku workshop in the morning.”

According to Burgie, Haiku is a traditional Japanese poetry that consists of three lines and 17 syllables.

“The first and last lines having a count of five words and the middle line with seven.

“They are unfinished poems that are started by the poet and finished by the reader.”

Anthea said she is a born storyteller and is inspired by nature and wildlife, silence, music and art.

She has been published in various anthologies and magazines.

Her poems were published on the AVBOB National Poetry Competition website, and a special edition of Stanzas (2018).

Anthea holds an MA degree in publishing, and produces a range of undergraduate brochures at the University of Pretoria.

She is also the editor of the JuniorTukkie magazine, and recently a creative writing editor for the English Academy.

Peter has a degree in theology from the King’s College, University of London.

“He has worked for the BBC World Service, and is also a food and wine critique.

He has produced radio documentaries for the SABC. His accolades include winning an Artes for investigative journalism, and an award for promoting inter-religious dialogue,”said Burgie.

The club advised visitors to bring a packed lunch, and to join in the afternoon session.
