Suspected explosives were discovered inside a locked safe at the Bedfordview Licencing Department offices earlier today.
An employee at the offices alerted the Bedfordview SAPS following the discovery.
The SAPS Explosives Unit based in Germiston was called in to assess the situation.
The area was cordoned off during the assessment of the devices.
The items were found to be two live smoke grenades, six live R4 rounds, and one live 20mm bullet.
The items were found while the safe was cleaned out.
“The explosives seemed to have been there for some time and have been booked in at Bedfordview SAPS,” said Bedfordview SAPS spokesperson, Andre de Jager.
In the morning of the 13 Feb 2020, I saw a white Urus in Bedfordview driving in the opposite direction on Boeing Road East under the bridge towards Boeing Road West, by Gilloly's Farm. Just an observation that could be of no relevance
