Pipe bursts leave residents with no water into the New Year

She added that water tankers were sent to the area, although one water tank was stuck due to a starter motor failure in Essexwold.

Central Bedfordview residents began the New Year with no water due to a pipe burst on December 31.

Ward 20 Clr Jill Humphreys said the residents were left without water until January 2.

She said it was due to two enormous bursts that ran down Kings Road and went on for six hours.

“It was fixed during the evening of December 31, but then burst again the next day,” said Humphreys.

She said the same team worked through two nights and two days without a break due to not being provided with the proper materials.

“Exhausted teams worked all day and through the night to try and replace huge sections of water mains.

“They struggled to get the right size clamps and replacement pipes without hairline cracks,” said Humphreys.

Humphreys said there were about 40 homes that still did not have water once fixed because all the valves had not been opened.

“I had to fight with the officials to go back and check. Eventually they did. They found closed valves and re-opened them,” said Humphreys.

“As much as I understand that at this time, officials are also trying to have a break, it is not acceptable that such a huge area is left with no water and no feedback for so long,” said Humphreys.
