Bedfordview High School (BHS) matric learner Dineo Mohlatlole is the top achiever with three distinctions and credits her mathematics teacher as her biggest supporter.
Dineo achieved distinctions in mathematics, physical science and accounting.
“I don’t know how I did it, it’s still a shock. My hard work has paid off,” said Dineo.
She said mathematics was her favourite subject due to having a supportive teacher, Miss Chakanetsa, and having extra classes.
“She has been a mentor and like a parent to me. I couldn’t have done it without her,” said Dineo.
To the class of 2020 she said hard work and sacrifice is what they need to succeed.
For now she said she want to study accounting sciences and is currently looking at universities.
Thabo Mohlatlole, uncle to Dineo, said the family is proud of her for her results.
“She is a hard worker and takes everything she does very seriously and remains disciplined. We are so proud of her,” said Thabo.
He said the family comes from Limpopo, where Dineo did not do Afrikaans and it made it difficult for schools to accept her.
“I have to give thanks to BHS for accepting her and allowing her to work hard, despite not having Afrikaans,” said Thabo.
He said the family supports her in her future endeavours and hopes she does whatever she is passionate about.
