Climate change talk to be held in Modderfontein

The focus will be on how climate change will affect our already scarce water resources, the link between water usage and energy consumption, and how using less water in our gardens will help to mitigate climate change.

The first meeting hosted by the Modderfontein Conservation Society will see the topic of climate change feature as the topic of discussion.

Set to be held at the old Modderfontein Town Hall, 1 Casino Road at 7.30 pm on January 16, Dr Gwendolyn Wellmann will give an illustrated talk entitled Water Conservation and Climate Change.

Wellmann describes herself as an avid backyard vegetable gardener and a sociologist specialising in sustainable community development.

The focus will be on how climate change will affect our already scarce water resources, the link between water usage and energy consumption, and how using less water in our gardens will help to mitigate climate change.

Wellmann has evaluated, advised and trained clients within the oil and gas and mining industries, government, and NGOs in East, West and Southern Africa, Peru and the Philippines. She has also authored several peer-reviewed publications and has presented papers at several international conferences.

Her academic work includes advising Masters and PhD students at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University.

Wellmann has been a board member of several non-profits both in South Africa and in Ghana and is looking forward to imparting a little of her vast knowledge at the meeting.

Visitors are welcome to attend this talk.
