Historic AEL company’s clean-up campaign

AEL showed how the 67 minutes initiative is not just an event for one month.

AEL Intelligent Blasting developer, producer and supplier of commercial explosives conducted a clean-up at one of the gates outside its Modderfontein head office site.

The historic explosives company gathered a total of 100 employees and contractors to tackle the excessive waste dumped close to the road.

Johann Lessing, engineering SHE manager at AEL, said the clean-up managed to remove about 40 tonnes of waste near their east gate.

The waste was placed in skips and transported to designated dumping areas.

“This was done under the 67 minutes for Mandela project, which also gave all personnel at our Modderfontein office an opportunity to work together for a common goal,” said Lessing.

The manger is of the view that the message behind Mandela Day is simple, each individual or business has the ability and the responsibility to change the world for the better.

As Nelson Mandela said, “A fundamental concern for others in our individual and community lives would go a long way in making the world the better place we so passionately dreamt of”.

AEL showed how the 67 minutes initiative is not just an event for one month, but it is also an ongoing lifestyle and inspiration to serve your environment and community all-year round.

AEL was established in 1896 as part of the AECI Group.

The producing company has become one of the world’s leading suppliers of explosives and initiating systems.

The Modderfontein business is complemented by production facilities and offices throughout Southern Africa, Africa, and select international regions in Southeast Asia, South America and Europe.

AEL has 58 plants and 34 sites in more than 20 countries.
