Balwin Charity Hat Walk raises R2.56-million nationwide

Steve Brookes said Balwin prides itself on giving back to the communities in which it operates.

Balwin Properties, through the Balwin Charity Hat Walk held at Jeppe Quondam on December 1, raised R1.6- million for various charities in Johannesburg, including Little Eden.

The charities who benefited from the Johannesburg Balwain Charity Hat Walk were The Abraham Kriel Bambanani, Abused and Abandoned Kids, Adorabull Terrier Rescue, Alexandra Education Committee, Bedfordview and Germiston SPCA, Cotlands, Endangered Wildlife Trust, Little Eden, Manger Care Centre, Mamelodi YMCA & Elderly, Thembalami Care Centre Rand Aid, Theo Jackson Fund, Woodrock Animal Rescue, Recycle 4 Rescue, Jeppe Running Club DPI, Bedfordview Community Policing Forum and Jeppe School Pipe Band.

The total given to over 30 charities, including walks in KwaZulu-Natal and Cape Town recently is a record- breaking R2.56-million, with last year’s total being R2.16-m.

CEO of Balwin Properties Ltd and chair of Balwin Foundation NPC Steve Brookes said Balwin prides itself on giving back to the communities in which it operates.

He said through the annual Balwin Charity Walk, Balwin strives to generously donate much-needed funds to various charities selected as beneficiaries.

“As a company with a focus on uplifting local communities and staff with a heart that supports this vision, the event serves as Balwin’s annual year-end function,” said Brookes.

One of the local beneficiaries, Little Eden, received R100 000 from the walk.

“We thank Balwin for supporting our 300 profoundly intellectually and physically disabled children and adults.

“The donation, just in time for Christmas, is a gift from heaven and much appreciated,” said Zai Miller, Little Eden development officer.
