Wildlife centre appeals for help following Isando oil spill

The South African Wildlife Rehabilitation Center has appealed to residents who may find injured or oil contaminated wildlife in the Edenvale area to contact the centre immediately.
The centre posted to Facebook earlier today that they were called out to locate and treat injured animals following an oil spill affecting Edenvale’s water system.
The centre stated that 24 birds have already been helped.
“An oil spill of approximately 100 000 litres of oil has flowed from Isando through Edenvale,” the centre posted.
The spill has subsequently run through Horwood’s Farm.
“We are asking for anyone finding birds or ducks or other wildlife in the area, to give us a call urgently. We are stretched to our limit with treating those (animals) coming in, so ask that if you do see any, to pick them up and just secure them while you call us to help,” the centre stated in the post.
Contaminated birds will no longer have the ability to keep warm or control their body temperature.
Birds and ducks found should be kept of windy areas. The birds should also be kept warm but not hot.
