Mashile shares festive season tips

“Community members should never post that they are going on holiday on social media as criminals may use this information to their advantage.”

With the festive season in full swing, Edenvale SAPS urged community members to exercise caution and be safe this time of year.

Edenvale SAPS spokesperson Sgt Jacob Mashile said during the festive season the station will bolster its crime-fighting efforts in the precinct.

He said the station will be conducting joint zonal operations in partnership with other police stations in the Ekurhuleni North Cluster.

“We will also host other operations in partnership with other law enforcement agencies and the community.”

Community members can expect more roadblocks, an increased police presence and more visible policing.

“On December 17 the station received several new police constables which will assist and increase the police presence this festive season.”

Crimes, identified by Mashile, which generally show an increase during the festive season include fraud, residential and business burglary.

To try to prevent these crimes Mashile shared some preventative tips with the community.

“Community members should never post that they are going on holiday on social media as criminals may use this information to their advantage.”

In terms of purchasing products or gifts online, Mashile urged community members to only pay once they have physically seen what they are buying.

He said community members should pay cash and meet in a public space to do the exchange.

Mashile urged community members to cooperate with police this festive season and report any suspicious activity.

“Edenvale Police Station wishes its entire community a happy and safe holiday season.”
