LATEST: Permit to protest outside McLaren Circus reinstated (VIDEO)

It had been withdrawn, but the reinstatement came after a meeting with conveners at the site in Hurlyvale Park.

Eddie Hart from EMPD Edenvale confirmed to the NEWS that the permit to protest outside McLaren Circus today was reinstated. It had shortly been withdrawn, but the reinstatement came after a meeting with conveners at the site in Hurlyvale Park.

Watch:

“They can proceed as long as they adhere to the conditions of Section 205. It includes keeping a distance of 100 metres from the circus activities. Protestors are not allowed to intrude onto the road and there must be no hooting. The Road Traffic Act only allows the use of a hooter in case of an emergency,” said Hart.

Hart dismissed allegations that people were told they could be arrested.

“Nobody was told they would be arrested. If people contravene Section 205 we can arrest the convener of a gathering. The convener is solely responsible,” said Hart.

The circus will have it last performance in Edenvale this afternoon.
