Edenvale community to take to the streets for 16 Days of Activism against Gender-based Violence

Mashile said the walk hopes to foster greater awareness about gender-based violence.

Community members are invited to attend this year’s SAPS prayer walk which will kick off at Edenvale SAPS’ 16 Days of Activism against Gender-based Violence campaign.

Set to be held on November 24 at the park near the First Avenue Bridge.

It will be held in partnership with the Edenvale Community Police Forum and other NGO’s.

The five kilometre walk will start at 10.30am, but community members can start gathering from 8am onwards.

Edenvale SAPS spokesperson Sgt Jacob Mashile said the walk hopes to foster greater awareness about gender-based violence.

“Everyone is welcome to join us. We hope vulnerable groups, children and members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, transsexual, queer, questioning, intersex, asexual, ally, pansexua (LGBTTQQIAAP) community joins us.”

Mashile urged community members to get involved.

“Victims of gender-based violence need to know their rights.”
