This warning was issued on October 9, after JMPD operations officers found a truck driver illegally dumping refuse ot Modderfontein Road.

“As a first-time offender, the driver was charged R10 000 for illegal dumping and the truck was impounded,” Tembe said.

Spokesperson for JMPD Wayne Minnaar said fines were put in place to prevent illegal dumping.

“First-time offenders will be charged R10 000 for illegal dumping. Second-time offenders will be charged R15 000 and people who are caught a third time will be charged R20 000.”

Minnaar said legal dumping sites can be found on the Pikitup website or City of Johannesburg’s website, under ‘dumping sites’.

CoJ’s stakeholder manager for public safety MMC Luyanda Longwe said the City of Joburg has a by-law enforcement unit.

“They patrol across the city and give citations to those found dumping illegally.

“We also have an illegal-dumping number where residents can send through pictures of vehicles illegally dumping, and the officers will follow up and ensure that illegal dumpers get a citation.”

Ward 32 Clr Bongani Nkomo reminded Modderfontein residents that there is a dumping site in Linbro Park and Chloorkop in Ekurhuleni.
