History of Jeppe Girls displayed beautifully

The school wanted to share the school’s history with everyone who came to visit the school.

Centenary celebrations continued at Jeppe High School for Girls on October 2 when headmistress Dina Goncalves paid tribute to the creators of the history panels that have been installed at the back of the school hall.

The school wanted to share the school’s history with everyone who came to visit the school.

“Our archivist, Judy le Grange, from the class of 1969, was briefed by Kevin Tait to start the project in 2011 after she had completed a similar one for Jeppe High School for Boys,” said the school’s public relations officer, Carole Heming.

Le Grange drafted a script, but it lay dormant for a while until the beginning of 2018 when it became a centenary project.

The people who form part of the committee that worked on the project were Judy le Grange, Kevin Tait and Catherine Batchelder.

“The committee spent many hours working on the history content and transforming it from a written script to a visual history. They also discussed how it could be displayed for all to see, rather than being put away in a room where it is seldom visited. Batchelder came up with the idea of displaying the history in panels on hinges.

“John Brodrick, together with Tait, were responsible for editing and proofreading the material before it went to the printers,” said Heming.

The panels were installed in time for the Centenary Reunion, which was attended by over 400 old girls and guests on September 14.
