The truck, believed to be stolen in the Edenvale area, was noticed on October 15 while police officers conducted a routine patrol.

Gauteng SAPS spokesperson Brig Mathapelo Peters said officers noticed the truck on Linksfield Road and followed it.

After officers signalled for the truck to stop from their vehicle, the driver stopped the truck, got out of it and hastily got into a nearby Toyota Rush, which had two occupants in it.

“Police gave chase as the suspects drove towards the N3 highway.

“The suspects started shooting at the police, who then returned fire.”

The Toyota came to a standstill on the southbound highway after officers shot at its tyres.

“Two suspects jumped out of the car and fled on foot,” said Peters.

“One suspect was cornered and arrested while the other suspect evaded arrest.”

The third suspect found injured inside the car was arrested and taken to hospital under police guard to receive medical treatment.

The arrested suspects will appear in the Edenvale Magistrate’s Court.

The arrested men would face charges of attempted murder, possession of a suspected stolen vehicle, possession of car theft implements, and reckless and negligent driving.

Peters said preliminary investigations indicate the truck, spotted by police, was stolen in Edenvale.

“The Toyota was fitted with false number plates.”

She said an investigation is underway to establish whether the Toyota was stolen.

Upon searching the vehicle, police found car jamming devices and other equipment used to steal vehicles.

Police are still searching for the suspect that is still at large.

They urge anyone with information to contact the police on 10111 or 0860010111.
