Individual risk assessments by Rand Aid social workers discovered some Tarentaal residents were battling to meet their nutritional requirements.

Rand Aid Association’s Social React Division secured a R24 000 contribution granted for the 2019/2020 year.

Tarentaal is a retirement village for older people healthy enough to live an independent life.

All units are self-catering and meals are not provided.

Unlike Thembalami Care Centre for people in need of nursing care, which provides three balanced meals a day,

Ayanda Matthews, Rand Aid’s general manager for Compliance and Social React Division said Dis-Chem helped ensure healthy eating is not compromised.

“The elderly are among the most vulnerable when it comes to nutritional deficiencies, which leads to a longer recovery period from illnesses.”

If you would like to make a donation to either Thembalami or Tarentaal, call Erica Woodward during the morning on 011 882 2510.
