Improvements made to Queen Street

“We are far from done, but I will continue to drive capital expenditure.”

Community members and motorists can look forward to new road markings along Queen Street.

The project, which started at the end of September, saw new road markings painted up and down the street.

Ward 118 Clr Neuren Pietersen said he was thrilled about the markings being done.

“We are far from done, but I will continue to drive capital expenditure.”

Beside the road markings, Pietersen said portions of several roads, such as Ernest Schwartz Lane, Marcia Street, Friedland Avenue and Derrick Avenue, received much-needed attention in recent months.

He explained he is also looking at alternative parking options along the street.

However, with bustling businesses lining either side of the street there are space limitations.

Until a solution is found, Pietersen encouraged business owners to work together.

He said if a business owner knows their customers make use of other businesses’ parking after hours, they should seek permission and come to an agreement.

Pietersen believes that if this is done respectfully and parking bays are not abused, there should be no problems.

Moving forward, Pietersen hopes to drive the installation of signage to inform motorists of the street’s vehicle tonnage restrictions.
