Massive pipe burst leaves Bedfordview residents without water

Water returned to Morninghill, St Andrew's and Senderwood on October 3.

A massive pipe burst occurred during the evening of September 30, leaving residents of Morninghill, Senderwood and St Andrew’s without water for two days.

Themba Gadebe, CoE spokesperson, said the interruption was due to a burst water pipe at the corner of Malan Avenue and Clarkson Street, Morninghill.

“Repairs to the supply pipeline from Linksfield Reservoir was carried out,” said Gadebe.

Ward 20 Clr Jill Humphreys said officials from Rand Water installed a new valve on the evening of September 30.

Humphreys said Rand Water shut off the inflow during the process, which left residents with no water.

“The burst pipe was fixed and water returned to residents, but a secondary burst happened on October 1, which again left residents without water and the reservoir empty,” said Humphreys.

She added water pressure was restored to all affected areas on October 3.
