Residents and staff created special Heritage Day hats and hand-crafted Proteas for table decorations in the OT activity centre, weeks in advance.

“The day was awash with brilliant colours as the staff was dressed in their bright and beautiful traditional attire,” said Rand Aid’s Cathy Grosvenor.

Debbie Christen, manager of recreational programmes, said the day was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the spirit and beauty of their diverse cultures.

“We found joy in the selection of music and dances from around the world.”

The dance programme began with a staff performance of different tribal dances.

This was followed by more dancing, such as the Hillbilly Rock, American line dance.

The programme ended with a lone Scottish piper who played Scotland the Brave.

After thoroughly enjoying the entertainment, residents enjoyed a braai by the Naked Chefs from Inyoni Creek.
