#CrimeStats – Common robbery increases by 400% in Sebenza

Attempted murder cases increased by 37.5%.

Sebenza SAPS saw a 400% increase in the number of common robbery cases reported in the area during the 2018/2019 financial year spanning April 1, 2018, and March 2019.

The number increased by 8 from the previous year when only two cases were reported.

Cases of malicious damage to property also increased by 228.6% with a total of 23 cases reported over the last financial year.

Attempted murder cases increased by 37.5% with 11 cases reported in the 2018/2019 year.

An increase of 42.7% was reported in the number of commercial crimes for the Sebenza SAPS with a total of 224 cases.

Two cases of arson were reported. This is the first time since the 2013/2014 financial year that Sebenza SAPS have reported arson.

Additionally, Sebenza SAPS featured in the top 30 stations nationally for the number of arrests made for persons driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

The number of arrests in the category totaled 405, a 13.4% increase from the previous financial year.

There was a 25% decrease in the number of murders for the area and a 100% decrease in the number of sexual assault cases reported.

33.3% is the decrease in the number of residential robberies reported.

Business burglaries also decreased by 27.8%.
