Art demonstration to be held

In Hilary's practical work, she attempts to deconstruct and reconstruct her feminine identity.

Hilary Keegan is set to present a loose, experimental acrylic demonstration in an abstract fashion for the Paint and Palette Art Group.

Born in Johannesburg, Hilary obtained her degree at the University of the Witwatersrand and headed up the art departments at several schools.

In Hilary’s practical work, she attempts to deconstruct and reconstruct her feminine identity.

This is achieved by presenting the paintings in a dreamlike landscape where each character moves from one reality to another.

Hilary reconfigures the symbolism of the body where sacred and profane can co-exist.

This is just the beginning of her journey and new adventures.

Quite a few of Hilary’s paintings are related to the statue of the Virgin Mary that stood on her mother’s dressing table when she was younger.

Hilary’s paintings depict a journey that is not logical or sequential like a linear path, but are rather viewed as a dream.

The demonstration for the group will be held at the Edenvale Community Centre on September 21 between 2pm and 4pm.

Please join the Paint and Palette group at the Edenvale Community Centre, corner Van Riebeeck and 2nd Street.

Admission is R20 for members and R50 for guests. Refreshments will be provided.
