Cleveland SAPS officer arrested in Edenvale

An off-duty Cleveland SAPS constable was arrested by Edenvale SAPS for driving under the influence of alcohol.

Edenvale SAPS spokesperson Sgt Jacob Mashile said the constable was found driving his vehicle by officers patrolling sector one in the early hours of September 1.

“The patrolling officers noticed a suspicious vehicle and stopped it,” said Mashile.

“The officers smelled alcohol and breathalysed the suspect believed to be between the ages of 25 and 30.”

Mashile said the suspect was taken to a nearby hospital where his blood was taken.

“All necessary procedures were followed and the suspect was detained at Edenvale Police Station.

“No one is above the law. Edenvale SAPS has a zero-tolerance stance towards drinking and driving,” said Mashile.
