Shopping centre runs eco-brick campaign

Greenstone centres recycling station can be found outside the centre, behind Game

Local high schools and shoppers helped build eco-bricks at Greenstone Shopping Centre recently.

The campaign encouraged shoppers to go plastic free by bringing plastic bags in exchange for a Greenstone shopper bag.

Over 7 000 plastic bags were collected in exchange for over 1 500 bags.

Edenglen High School learners build eco-bricks from plastics bags and bottles at Greenstone Shopping Centre.

Learners from Edenglen High School and Holy Rosary School helped to make the 432 or so eco-bricks that were donated to the Khuthaza Foundation.

Charmain Qofela, marketing manager of Greenstone Shopping Centre, said they hope to inspire and educate future leaders to look after their environment.

Khuthaza Foundation runs river clean-up projects and other project, including community gardens, building of pre-school classes and many more.

Greenstone Shopping Centre’s recycling station can be found outside the centre, behind Game, or multicoloured bins available at the centre’s entrances.

Separated paper, plastic, glass and cans can be dropped off 24 hours a day at the recycling station and during trading hours at the bins.

Batteries, ink cartridges and assembled eco-bricks can be delivered to the centre information kiosk and Woolworths during trading hours.
