Update: CoE investigates low water pressure on Van Buuren

Once reported, the City sent out officials from its Revenue Division to investigate the matter.

The City of Ekurhuleni (CoE) is investigating the low water pressure on Van Buuren Road in Bedfordview, which has left businesses with little to no water.

In response to the NEWS’ front page article last week, Taps run dry for businesses, Themba Gadebe, CoE spokesperson, said the City has been aware of the water pressure problem on Van Buuren Road from July 10.

It was reported that a business on Van Buuren Road had been left without water for a month due to a water pressure problem which has left businesses losing money. Regina Skin Treatments and building owner Peter Fawcett said he had a problem with water pressure since June 27. Tenants had taken matters into their own hands by using buckets of water to do day-to-day tasks.

Once reported, the City sent out officials from its Revenue Division to investigate the matter.

Gadebe said the City found the water pressure fluctuates around the City’s approved minimum pressure and investigations are still underway.

“It seems that the properties west of Van Buuren, between Kloof and De Wet, are affected,” said Gadebe.

Businesses on Van Buuren Road have resulted in gathering water for safety hazards.

On why the investigation into this matter is taking time, Gadebe said the City has to go through an extensive fault exercise where the entire surrounding network had to be investigated.

“The City is conducting an investigation on the water reticulation network and has already made good progress,” said Gadebe.

He said Regina Skin Treatments and other businesses in the same building is receiving, although at low pressure.

Gadebe said the City expects to find the source of the problem before the end of August.
