27 arrested during operation Okae Molau

Operation Okae Molau was launched in February this year.

Yeoville SAPS, with JMPD and Home Affairs, conducted operation Okae Molau on August 8 and 9.

During the operation, 27 suspects were arrested for kidnapping and robbery, house breaking and theft, assault, dealing in liquor without licence, dealing in dagga, and illegal immigrants.

According to Yeoville SAPS spokesperson Sfisio Mabizela, on August 8 around 8.45pm while the operation was ongoing an alleged victim of kidnapping and robbery managed to jump out of a bakkie at a set of traffic lights when seeing the police convoy at the corner of Hendon Street and Joe Slovo Drive and stopped them to request assistance.

“The victim told officers they were robbed of their money. According to the victim, the suspects were driving around with them demanding more money so that they can be released following an arrangement that they be taken from Musina to Johannesburg Park Station. They were ordered to request payment for their release from their employers and relatives,” said Mabizela.

He said one of the suspect (39) was arrested and another was on the run.

Yeoville station commander Col Goodenough Happy Xaba is happy with the results of the operation.

“I would like to commend and applaud members of JMPD, SAPS and Home Affairs for the success of operation Okae Molau. Six documented foreign nationals who were kidnapped managed to be rescued peacefully, and we arrested 27 suspects,” said Xaba.

Operation Okae Molau was launched in February this year.
