“Cowen Tshabangu (55) was sentenced to two years’ imprisonment, with a suspended sentence of five years for fraud,” said Capt Johan Jordaan, Cleveland SAPS spokesperson.

He said Tshabangu applied for a loan and credit card using false documentation at a bank in Jules Street, Malvern on November 7, last year.

“He submitted a false payslip and a bank statement.

“Through this, he received an amount of R99 000 in addition to a credit card limit of about R2 000.

“A large portion of the funds was paid into another person’s account. The bank opened a case of fraud at Cleveland SAPS and on December 20, Tshabangu was traced to Daveyton and arrested before being charged with fraud the next day,” said Jordaan.
