Two suspects in separate cases were recently convicted to three-years’ imprisonment by the Jeppe Magistrate's Court.

The Jeppe Magistrate’s Court in Joburg handed swift justice to a 46-year-old man by finding him guilty of business burglary and sentenced him to three years in jail on July 18.

The court heard that Samuel Dube would receive an additional one-year sentence, suspended for five years, in addition to his three-year prison term.

“The defendant was arrested on November 4, 2017, after he and three accomplices broke into the premises of a business on Main Reef Road,” said Cleveland SAPS spokesperson Capt Johan Jordaan.

“The other three suspects managed to escape through a hole they had made in the roof.

“Dube was hiding when police arrived on the scene, while his accomplices had managed to escape. He was detained at Cleveland SAPS and held on additional charges of possession of housebreaking implements,” added Jordaan.

In a separate case, Sifiso Mbatha (40), was convicted for theft and sentenced to three years’ imprisonment by the Jeppe Magistrate’s Court on July 16.

The court heard that Mbatha broke into a business on Main Road in Denver in the early hours of December 8.

“He was later caught removing fire extinguishers from the wall,” said Jordaan.

“Investigations determined that Mbatha and his accomplice had placed several more fire extinguishers outside the business premises with the intention of fleeing the scene with them.

“Police arrived at the premises at about 1.10am and proceeded to arrest Mbatha, who was one of two suspects who had broken in through a hole in the wall,” said Jordaan.

“The Cleveland SAPS station commander and its management commend these convictions and are satisfied that the law ran its course. Justice was served and yet more criminals have been taken off the streets,” said Jordaan.
