Artists retire after long career

The couple has been part of the Edenvale art and crafts world for many years.

Artists Roy and Mary Brooks invited guests to view their work at a Farewell Exhibition of Art and Ceramics on July 27 and 28, as the couple will be retiring.

Mary (71) has been doing ceramics for 42 years, while her husband Roy (77) has been painting for 55 years.

The couple has been part of the Edenvale art and crafts world for many years.

Mary and Roy Brooks hosted a Farewell Exhibition of Art and Ceramics before their retirement.

“I am so proud of my husband and all he has achieved. I play in the mud, which is more relaxing,” said Mary.

Roy said that he is looking forward to resting, but will still be doing art on the side.

Mary’s daughter, Linsey Bannan, will be taking over the Ceramics Studio from her mother.

“My parents are an incredible duo, having just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary and made a living from their passions in art and pottery, which is not an easy feat,” said Linsey.

Mary Brooks does ceramics and pottery.

She said the farewell exhibition had over 250 guests.

“I am grateful and excited to be taking over the Ceramics Studio and continue with teaching our pottery students at the Brooks Studio,” said Linsey.

She added her parents will be relocating to Nelspruit.
