Knit a square for a blanket

The squares will be crocheted together to make blankets for the needy.

The 67 Blankets for Nelson Mandela Day organisation received a donation of knitted squares from Inyoni Creek retirement village on July 18.

Residents gathered around the fireplace in the clubhouse with hot chocolate and muffins at hand, knitting their squares.

Later that afternoon, 67 Blankets’ public relations representatives, Kevin Friedman and Judith Clare, collected 900 squares that were produced.

The squares will be crocheted together to make blankets for the needy.

Ann Hooper and Marge Garden were happy to help knit squares on Mandela Day.

Jenny Tonkin, Inyoni Creek manager, said residents have been challenged to double the number of squares next year.

Kevin expressed his gratitude for the outpouring of love shown to people they do not know and will never meet.
