67 minutes Mandela Day Square Challenge

Some ladies made their squares beforehand and added them to the pile on the day.

Rand Aid’s Thornhill Manor retirement village had a 67 minutes Mandela Day Square Challenge on July 18.

Twenty-three women gathered to either knit or crochet a square.

Some women made their squares beforehand and added them to the pile on the day.

Wool was donated by the village’s Knit & Natter group who also made knitting needles available.

Thornhill Manor’s deputy manager Jackie Scott said the knitted squares were donated to the 67 Blankets for Nelson Mandela Day organisation.

“The residents also did a stationery collection of pens, pencils, crayons, paper, reading books, rulers, erasers and sharpeners, which were delivered to Laerskool Nobel Primary in Modderfontein for those pupils who cannot afford these basic items.

Some cash and a bunch of beanies to keep those little heads warm were also sent,” said Jackie.
