R10 000 reward offered after 27 bicycles are stolen during business burglary

“It appears the suspects gained entry to the business by forcing one of the doors open.”

A R10 000 reward was offered for information which leads to the arrest and conviction of suspects involved in the burglary of Johnson Cycle Works.

On July 23 an unknown number of suspects stole numerous bicycles, a trailer (registration DMS 801 GP), electrical accessories and kitchen appliances.

Established in the 1980s, the cycling shop is one of the oldest businesses in Edenvale.

Kim Johnson, from the store, said the burglars cleared them out.

Bicycles stolen included thirteen CRT 29-inch bikes, six Scott bicycles of various sizes and eight Silverback Bikes (children’s Avalanche bikes).

Edenvale SAPS spokesperson Sgt Jacob Mashile said the police are investigating a case of business burglary.

“It appears the suspects gained entry to the business by forcing one of the doors open.”

Mashile said the necessary police personnel responded to the crime scene and took fingerprints.

He urged business owners to take extra security precautions.

Some tips he provided included investing in alarm systems and strengthening existing security.
