27 bicycles stolen during burglary

“It appears the suspects gained entry into the business by forcing one of the doors open.”

A R10 000 reward was offered for information which leads to the arrest and conviction of the suspects involved in the burglary of Johnson Cycle Works.

On July 23, an unknown number of suspects stole numerous bicycles, a Simca trailer (registration DMS 801 GP), electrical accessories and kitchen appliances.

Established in the 1980s, the cycling shop is one of the oldest businesses in Edenvale.

Kim Johnson, from the store, said the burglars cleared the store’s stock.

Bicycles stolen included 13 CRT 29-inch bikes, six Scott bicycles of various sizes and eight Silverback children’s Avalanche Bikes.

Edenvale SAPS spokesperson Sgt Jacob Mashile said the police are investigating a case of a business burglary.

“It appears the suspects gained entry into the business by forcing one of the doors open.”

Mashile said the necessary police personnel responded to the scene and have taken fingerprints.

Mashile urged business owners to take extra security precautions.

Some tips he provided included investing in alarm systems and strengthening existing security.
