Officers dressed in civilian clothing, who were travelling in an unmarked vehicle along Albertina Sisulu Road, spotted a suspicious-looking car in Troyeville.

The unlicensed CZ75 and Glock handguns were confiscated by the police.

“They stopped the red Hyundai with two men inside and searched it,” said Jeppe SAPS spokesperson Capt Richard Munyayi.

“Upon searching, officers found a CZ75 and a Glock handgun in the men’s possession. The suspects were unable to produce firearm licences and were arrested immediately.

“They were taken to Jeppe SAPS and charged with possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition. Both suspects are expected to appear in court soon while police investigations continue,” added Munyayi.

He said the pair were travelling from Alexandra township to the Joburg CBD at the time of the arrests.

The two firearms, including three magazines with live rounds, were confiscated and booked into evidence.
