Armed robbery suspect shot and arrested

Karma hits would-be armed robber in the leg.

A would-be robber stared down the barrel of his own gun after he was disarmed and shot in the leg by his intended target near the George Goch Hostel in Jeppestown on July 9.

According to Jeppe SAPS spokesperson Capt Richard Munyayi, the suspect, in his 30s, together with an accomplice, accosted a 50-year-old near the hostel.

“The victim was at work with his colleagues when they were approached by two men. One of them pointed a firearm at the victim and ordered him to hand over his wallet and a cellphone. The victim complied, but very soon after he grabbed the suspect before a fight for the gun ensued,” Munyayi told the EXPRESS.

OUCH! Things turn ugly for would-be robber in Jeppestown.

“They both fell and continued to tussle over the gun. A shot went off moments later and the suspect was hit once in the right leg,” Munyayi said.

Munyayi said the man’s colleagues managed to apprehend the suspect and contacted the police. The other suspect fled.

“The police arrested the suspect and a firearm and ammunition were confiscated. The suspect was taken to Jeppe Police Station, where a case of armed robbery and attempted murder was opened. He was charged and taken to hospital under police guard. He will appear in court soon. The police are on the hunt for the other suspect,” said Munyayi.
