Nineteen motorists were put behind bars after EMPD took to the roads and clamped down on drivers suspected to be driving under the influence of alcohol.
The operation, held on July 5 and 6, saw officers conduct static roadblocks and vehicle patrols across Edenvale.
EMPD spokesperson Chief Supt Wilfred Kgasago said it was held in response to accidents and excessive speeding believed to be associated with the consumption of alcohol.
“The suspects were detained at the Edenvale Police Station and charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol,” said Kgasago.
The suspects are expected to face their charges at Edenvale Magistrate’s Court soon.
