Traffic lights fixed after collission

According to Nkomo, the problem turned out to be a City Power issue because there was no power going to the intersection.

After residents and Ward 32 Clr Bongani Nkomo reported faulty traffic lights on Hereford and Blackrock roads consistently last month, the lights were finally repaired.

Nkomo said he sent the Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) enquiries daily about the issue.

According to Nkomo, the problem turned out to be a City Power issue because there was no power going to the intersection.

“JRA reported it to City Power and workers restored the power to the intersection,” said Nkomo.

On 20 June, just after City Power had restored power, a collision occurred allegedly due to traffic lights being out of sync.

Greenstone residents took a video of the traffic lights and reported it to JRA via Twitter.

Nkomo said he is not sure what happened after the lights were fixed.

According to Ward 32 Clr Bongani Nkomo, the problem turned out to be a City Power issue because there was no power going to the intersection.

“The quality assurance measures start with the contractors who fix and test the lights. After that a report of the lights being fixed is sent to their offices and then mine.

“I then have residents who will go and test the lights and they usually take videos to confirm the lights are working properly,” said Nkomo.

“Residents reported that the lights were fixed and working properly.”

Motorists are urged to be cautious when using intersections to avoid accidents.
