Life sentence for Denver murder suspect

Denver hostel murder accused snatched for life behind bars by long arm of the law.

A 28-year-old man from Denver Men’s Hostel was recently handed a life sentence by the South Gauteng High Court in Joburg on a charge of murder.

The accused Nhlakanipho Mdlalose was given an additional five-year prison term for an assault charge.

Both sentences will run concurrently.

The court heard that at about 6pm on August 26, 2017, Mdlalose accosted Thulani Buthelezi at the hostel.

He was found guilty of stabbing him several times in the upper body.

Cleveland SAPS spokesperson Capt Johan Jordaan told the EXPRESS the suspect was arrested immediately following the incident.

“The suspect was arrested and the case docket later booked out for an ensuing investigation. The investigating officer who was put on the case ensured that a thorough investigation followed in the lead up to the conviction.

“Cleveland SAPS management also commends the High Court. The accused’s sentence should serve as a warning to others out there who believe they can commit such a heinous crime and get away with it,” said Jordaan.
