Residents will have water during planned water outage – CoJ

"We will ensure that our reservoirs are full on Monday morning and the Rand Water reservoirs will also be full."

With residents and business raising their concerns on the 54-hour planned shutdown of water services on June 24, the City of Johannesburg found it necessary to addresses residents on how this will affect them.

“We will ensure that our reservoirs are full on Monday morning and the Rand Water reservoirs will also be full. We will be able to still get water pumped from these reservoirs during the outage.”
When full, the reservoirs have the capacity to supply water for up to two days.

De Jager explained how the CoJ will work around the 54-hour water outage scheduled for 24 June.

The contingency plan was put together by the CoJ, Johannesburg Water and Rand Water.

“The Rand Water purification plant will still be operational and will supply water to our water supply systems for the duration of the valve installation so as to help in efforts to replenish our reservoirs,” De Jager said.

He ensured residents and businesses that there will be nothing to worry about during this time.

“The City does not anticipate any unusual water supply disruptions during the shutdown. However, Johannesburg Water will continuously update residents on the progress of the work via all media platforms.”
He did say, in the event that there are water outages, it will be the result of other Johannesburg Water planned and unplanned interruptions.

The CoJ appealed to residents to use water sparingly during the shutdown and is reminding the public that Level 1 water restrictions are still in place.
