Two nabbed for possession of firearms

Flying squad makes 12 arrests, including two in Jeppe for conspiracy to commit robbery.

The Joburg Flying Squad arrested two suspects aged 27 and 35 in Jeppestown for the possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition and conspiracy to commit robbery on June 8.

“It is alleged that police officers were following up on information about a silver Ford Focus of which the occupants were planning to commit a robbery in Jeppestown,” said Flying Squad spokesperson Raymond Sambo.

“The members spotted the vehicle driving on Berg Street and upon searching the suspects and their vehicle, two unlicensed 9mm handguns were recovered.

“The serial numbers were filed off and the suspects were immediately placed under arrest and charged. They were taken to Jeppe SAPS, where they were detained and will soon appear in the Jeppe Magistrate’s Court.”

Sambo encouraged members of the public to continue to assist the police by reporting crime and any suspicious persons or activities.
