Community gathers to raise R37 000 for SPCA
The event was packed with market stalls, live music, a raffle draw, a pooch contest and a potjie competition.
Our Place Pub hosted the annual Edenvale SPCA winter fund-raiser on June 1 to collect food and blankets for SPCA animals.
The third annual event saw Sebenza and Edenglen community rally behind the cause and raise R37 200.
They donated 256 blankets, 520kg of dry dog food, 10kg of wet food, 39 kg of dry cat food, 3kg of wet food, 62kg of cat litter, farmyard food and loads of toys and hooves.
The event was packed with market stalls, live music, a raffle draw, a pooch contest and a potjie competition.
Prizes and giveaways were donated by patrons of the pub and suppliers, while volunteers Mandi Bain, Jennifer Osborne as well as Darryn Buys, Jade Kie and Terry Commerford from the pub called different businesses for donations and organised the event.
“On the day, we had a potjie competition, which always brings out the best in the guys as there is big rivalry between them all. It was won by Juan Van Zyl, who made a spicy lamb potjie,” said Mandi.
The contestants donated all the ingredients and the potjies were sold at R50 per plate.
All the proceeds went to the Edenvale SPCA.
A handover of the cheque and donated goods took place at Edenvale SPCA on June 7.
“Thank you to everyone at Our Place Pub. They step up their giving every year,” said SPCA manager Marita Acar.
