Nkomo talks about upkeep of Greenstone roads

He attributed the turn-around time of projects to a low number of staff currently.

Ward 32 Clr Bongani Nkomo has shared his perspective on road maintenance and the JRA in Greenstone.

Nkomo next to the traffic lights on Hereford Road which are off and yet to be fixed.

Nkomo highlighted the JRA’s turnaround time and the quality of work completed in the Greenstone area.

He has attributed the turn-around time of projects to possible staff shortages.

“There is only one person responsible for three regions which is the reason why turn-around time is delayed.”

Nkomo also told the NEWS he had reported the traffic lights on Hereford Road repeatedly.

“The traffic light issue is recorded with JRA and I follow-up on it daily,” said Nkomo.

According to Nkomo another problem in Greenstone is speeding motorists.

Nkomo noticed the paint used was dusty as remnants of the paint were spreading out from the markings.

He said speeding on Stoneridge Drive could be resolved with the installation of an Armco traffic barrier.

Nkomo said that similar barriers were recently installed in Blackrock Road near Stoneridge Drive.

“It took longer than expected to have these particular barriers in place,” he said.

During an on-site visit to Greenstone, Nkomo noted the recently painted road markings on Blackrock Road.

He has called on the community to get involved and be more active in the area.

Community members are encouraged to join the community social media groups.

Nkomo said that the City of Johannesburg’s increased budget would come as a relief for the area.

“High priority matters will obviously be attended to first,” said Nkomo.

JRA was sent a right to comment before June 6 but a reply was not received by the time of going to print.
